Information

Privacy policy

What data Greek Name Days processes and why, how Google ads work on the site and what rights you have under the GDPR.

Last updated:

This policy explains what personal data Greek Name Days (greeknamedays.online) processes when you visit it, and what rights you have under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, Regulation (EU) 2016/679) and Greek Law 4624/2019.

Data controller

The data controller is the operator of Greek Name Days. For anything about your data, email us at greeknamedays.help@gmail.com.

In short

  • You do not need an account, and we never ask for your name, email or other details to use the site.
  • The site sets no cookies of its own. Visits are counted with Statable, which uses no cookies and stores nothing on your device.
  • Fonts are served from our own server, not from third-party services.
  • We do not sell personal data.
  • When ads are shown, Google may use cookies; in Europe this only happens with your consent.

What data we process

Server logs

Like every website, the server logs technical details of each request: IP address, date and time, the page requested, your browser type and the page you came from. We use them only to keep the site secure and to fix errors, on the basis of our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). They are kept for up to 15 days and then deleted automatically.

Visitor statistics

To know which pages are used, we count visits with Statable, a service of Key Arg B.V. (Netherlands). Statable sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. It records the page, the page you came from, your browser, operating system and device type, screen size, language, country, how long the visit lasted and how far you scrolled. Your IP address is used only to derive your country and a visitor identifier that changes every day, and it is not stored. The data is stored on servers in the Netherlands. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in improving the site (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

If your browser sends a “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control” signal, your visit is not counted.

Search

Whatever you type into search is used only to show results, and we do not store it. Because the search term becomes part of the results page address, however, it may appear in the server logs.

Email

If you email us, we use your address and message only to reply and to check what you suggest. We keep the correspondence for as long as that takes.

Google ads

To cover its running costs, the site may show ads through Google AdSense. When ads are shown:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.eu.
  • Non-personalised ads may still use cookies for frequency capping, aggregated reporting and fraud prevention.

Google explains how it uses data from sites that use its services on the page How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Consent

For visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, we ask for consent before cookies or other identifiers are used for advertising. We use a Google-certified consent management platform for this, which also shows the full list of partners. The legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR and Article 4(5) of Greek Law 3471/2006).

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time with the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page. See the cookie policy for more.

Recipients and transfers outside the EEA

The site runs on a server we rent from OVHcloud (OVH SAS) in a data centre in France. Apart from that hosting provider, data is received only by Statable for visitor statistics (within the EU) and, when ads are shown, by Google and its partners. Google may process data outside the European Economic Area under the safeguards the GDPR provides for, such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.

Links to other websites

Our pages link to sources such as encyclopedias and synaxaria. When you follow such a link, that website's own privacy policy applies.

Your rights

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. You can also withdraw your consent at any time; this does not affect the lawfulness of processing before the withdrawal. To exercise your rights, email us at greeknamedays.help@gmail.com.

If you believe the processing breaks the law, you can lodge a complaint with the Hellenic Data Protection Authority or with the supervisory authority where you live.

Children

The site is meant for a general audience and does not knowingly collect children's data. In Greece, consent to advertising cookies for children under 15 must be given by a parent or guardian (Article 21 of Law 4624/2019).

Changes to this policy

If the way we process data changes, we will update this page and its last-updated date.

You can change or withdraw your cookie consent at any time.
