Apostle Aristobulus of the Seventy
One of the Seventy Apostles who, according to tradition, became a bishop and preached the Gospel in Britain; he is commemorated together with the Apostles Stachys, Apelles, Amplias, Urban and Narcissus.
Biography
Aristobulus was one of the Seventy Apostles and, according to tradition, the brother of the apostle Barnabas. He is commemorated together with five others of the Seventy — Stachys, Apelles, Ampliatus, Urban and Narcissus — who all became bishops and preached the Gospel in various regions: Stachys in Byzantium, Apelles in Heraclea, Ampliatus in Odyssopolis, Urban in Macedonia, and Narcissus in Athens.
Urban and Narcissus were martyred for tearing down idols, while Stachys and Aristobulus died in peace, preaching Christ to the end of their lives. According to later tradition, Aristobulus became a bishop and preached in Britain.
