Biography
Bartholomew was one of the Twelve Apostles. Tradition holds that he preached the Gospel to the Indians, to whom he gave the Gospel of Matthew, and was martyred by crucifixion at Urbanopolis.
Barnabas, a Jewish Levite from Cyprus, sold his property for the benefit of the first Christians in Jerusalem and introduced the Apostle Paul to the community there. Together they preached the Gospel in Antioch and travelled on missionary journeys.
Tradition holds that Barnabas was stoned and burned by Jews and pagans at Salamis in Cyprus, where he is regarded as the founder of the island's Church.
