The Prophet Micah

An eighth-century BC prophet from Moresheth, known for his call to justice, mercy and humility.

Biography

The prophet Micah lived in Jerusalem in the eighth century BC, under kings Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, at the same time as the prophet Isaiah. He came from the tribe of Judah and from Moresheth, hence his name Morasthite.

His book, one of the twelve so-called minor prophets, warns of the destruction of Samaria, foretells the coming of the Messiah, and reminds the people that God asks above all for justice, mercy and a humble walk with him. According to tradition, he was persecuted for his rebukes and eventually put to death.
