Old Testament era
Righteous Forefather Abraham
Old Testament patriarch who, according to Genesis, left Ur of the Chaldees at God's call and is honoured by the Church as a model of faith, together with his nephew Lot.
Biography
Abraham, originally Abram, came from Ur of the Chaldees, the son of Terah. When God called him to leave his homeland for the land of Canaan, he obeyed at the age of 75, taking with him his wife Sarah and his nephew Lot; God promised him that he would become the father of a great nation and that through him all the peoples of the earth would be blessed.
He had Isaac by Sarah and Ishmael by Hagar, as well as further sons by Keturah. The Church honours him as the "friend of God" and a model of faith, together with Lot.
