Bishop and patron saint of Larissa; according to tradition he took part in the First Ecumenical Council.
Biography
Achillius came from Cappadocia and lived in the time of Constantine the Great. He travelled to the Holy Land and to Rome, preaching Christianity in towns and villages, and later became bishop of Larissa.
According to tradition, he took part in the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea in 325, opposing Arius and invoking a miracle against Arian teaching. As bishop he helped widows, orphans and the poor, and built churches with money given to him by Constantine. He died in Larissa in 330; his relics were later moved to Prespa.
