Saint Agrippina of Rome

Virgin martyr of Rome who gave her wealth to the poor and was martyred in the 3rd century; according to tradition her relics were taken to Sicily.

Biography

Agrippina was born and martyred in Rome. From a young age she gave away all her wealth to relieve the poor and care for the sick, avoided marriage in devotion to Christ, and taught the faith to many.

In AD 262 she was denounced to the authorities as a subverter of idol-worship. She confessed her faith with courage, was flogged and cruelly tortured, and died a martyr. Three Christian women, Vassa, Paula and Agathonike, took her body and, after much wandering, buried it at Mineo in Sicily.
