Biography
Amalia (in Flemish, Amalberga) lived in the 7th century in Brabant, in present-day Belgium. According to tradition she was the sister or niece of Saint Pepin, duke of Brabant and a leading courtier of the Carolingian Franks, and she married Count Witger; she is regarded as the mother of several saints, among them Bishop Emebert of Cambrai and Gudula.
After a life devoted to charitable works, she became a nun late in life at the Benedictine monastery of Maubeuge, where she died in 690.
