Saint Anastasia of Serbia

Wife of Grand Prince Stefan Nemanja and mother of Saint Sava, who became a nun together with her husband.

Biography

Anastasia (born Ana) was the wife of Stefan Nemanja, Grand Prince of Serbia, and the mother of Saint Sava, founder of the autocephalous Church of Serbia. In 1196, when her husband gave up power and became a monk under the name Simeon, she too was tonsured a nun, taking the name Anastasia, and she died in 1200.
