4th century
Saint Charitina
Martyr from Amisus in Pontus.
Biography
Charitina was a slave of the senator Claudianus and suffered persecution under Diocletian. In 304 she was denounced as a Christian and, questioned in the presence of her master, boldly confessed her faith.
She was then subjected to harsh torture — according to tradition she survived even being thrown into the sea with a stone tied to her neck — and finally, when ordered to be taken to a brothel, surrendered her soul to God through prayer.
