5th–6th century
Saint Cyriacus the Anchorite
Ascetic in Palestine who lived to a very great age.
Biography
Cyriacus was born in Corinth in the 5th century, the son of the priest John and Eudoxia. While still young he went to Jerusalem and became a monk at the Lavra of Euthymius the Great, who sent him to practice asceticism near Gerasimus.
He later served as a priest and keeper of the sacristy at the Lavra of Chariton at Souka, where he spent thirty years and became known for his gentleness and patience toward his fellow monks. According to tradition, he was also an active opponent of Origenism.
In his old age he wandered as a hermit through various sketes of Palestine seeking solitude, and died at the age of 107.
