Saint Eudokia the Venerable Martyr

Venerable martyr from Heliopolis in Phoenicia.

Biography

Eudokia was born in Heliopolis in Phoenicia in the time of Emperor Trajan. According to her Life, she spent her early years in sinful luxury until a serious illness led her to repentance.

She met the monk Germanos, was baptised by Bishop Theodotos and gave away her wealth to the poor, living from then on as an ascetic. Tradition says her former lovers brought her to trial, where her prayer raised a ruler's dead child back to life.

She was eventually beheaded on the orders of a governor named Vincent.
