Saint Evanthia

Martyr commemorated with her husband Demetrius and their son Demetrianus.

Biography

Demetrius was a philosopher and ruler of the Asia Minor city of Skepsis, and a persecutor of Christians.

According to the Synaxarion of the centurion Cornelius, his wife Evanthia and their son Demetrianus were once praying together with Cornelius when an earthquake brought a building down on them, and they were trapped under the rubble crying out his name. Cornelius pulled them out alive, and the miracle led Demetrius himself, along with the whole city, to turn to Christ.

Evanthia is honoured today as a martyr together with her husband and son.
