Hieromartyr Hypatius, Bishop of Gangra
A bishop of Gangra in Paphlagonia who took part in the First Ecumenical Council (325) and was killed by heretics in 326, according to tradition struck by a stone.
Biography
Hypatius was Bishop of Gangra in the time of Constantine the Great and took part in the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea in 325, supporting Athanasius the Great against the Arian heresy. In his pastoral work he contended chiefly with the followers of Novatus, with such success that they turned against him.
In 326, on the road from Constantinople to Gangra, hired attackers set upon Hypatius in a desolate spot and threw him into a swamp; a woman among them killed him by striking his head with a stone. His relics became known for many miracles, for which he is venerated as a wonderworker.
