Saint Isidore of Seville
Bishop of Seville and a supremely learned teacher of the Church, founder of the Mozarabic liturgical tradition.
Biography
Isidore was born around 560 in Spain and was orphaned of his father as a child, raised by his elder brother Leander, bishop of Seville, who saw to his education and helped him in the struggle against the Arianism of the Visigoths.
After Leander's death he succeeded him on the see of Seville in 600. He presided over important councils, is regarded as the founder of the Mozarabic liturgical tradition, and is remembered as one of the most learned teachers of the Church, with crowds flocking to hear his teaching.
