Saint John the Theologian, Apostle and Evangelist
The “disciple whom Jesus loved”, author of the fourth Gospel; tradition holds that he wrote Revelation on Patmos.
Biography
John was the son of the fisherman Zebedee and brother of the apostle James; he came from the region of the Sea of Galilee, where he worked as a fisherman before following Jesus. He is considered the youngest of the Twelve Apostles and, according to tradition, the only one to live to old age and die a natural death, at Ephesus.
His feast on 26 September commemorates his Repose: according to church tradition, a few days after his burial his disciples found his tomb empty, an event the Church has linked to a wondrous passing into eternal life, similar to what is believed of the Virgin Mary.
