Saint Kyriaki the Great Martyr

Great martyr of the early Christian centuries.

Biography

Kyriaki was born on a Sunday (Kyriaki in Greek), which is how she got her name, to the devout couple Dorotheos and Eusevia. During the persecution of Diocletian her parents were arrested, tortured and beheaded, while she herself was brought before Caesar Maximian and then before Hilarianos, governor of Bithynia.

When Hilarianos tried to win her over by appealing to her beauty, she answered that she would remain a Christian in life and in death. He had her cruelly tortured and ordered her beheading, but according to the synaxarion, before the sword fell she gave up her spirit in prayer.
