Saint Marinos Vaanes
Monk from Constantinople, brought up in Bizye in Thrace, who became known for his almsgiving and strict asceticism.
Biography
The life of Saint Marinos is not recorded in the old synaxaria, but is preserved by the scholar Gedeon in the Byzantine Calendar. He was born in Constantinople, the son of the droungarios Nikephoros and Maria, and was raised piously at Bizye in Thrace.
He was tonsured a monk by his own brother Symeon, who came down from Mount Kyminas. Marinos lived a life of almsgiving and strict asceticism, and when he died in peace, his relics were placed at the monastery of the Theotokos of Koroni.
