Saint Nektarios of Aegina
Metropolitan of Pentapolis (1846–1920) who founded the Holy Trinity convent on Aegina.
Biography
Nektarios (born Anastasios Kefalas) was born in 1846 at Selymbria in Eastern Thrace. He was consecrated metropolitan of Pentapolis in Egypt and later served in Greece, where he was director of the Rizarios Ecclesiastical School.
He founded the Holy Trinity convent on Aegina, where he was buried. He died in Athens in 1920 and was recognised as a saint by the Ecumenical Patriarchate in 1961. He is one of the best-loved modern saints of Greece.
