Archbishop of Myra in Lycia, wonderworker and protector of sailors.
Biography
Nicholas lived in the fourth century and was archbishop of Myra in Lycia, in Asia Minor. Tradition preserves many stories of his generosity to the poor.
He is the protector of sailors and one of the best-loved saints in Greece, where many harbours have a church dedicated to him. His relics were taken to Bari in Italy in 1087.
