A priest and renowned biblical scholar of Caesarea, teacher of Eusebius, martyred under Diocletian.
Biography
Pamphilus was a priest and renowned biblical scholar in Caesarea of Palestine, the teacher and friend of the future historian Eusebius of Caesarea. During the persecution of Diocletian he was arrested together with eleven other Christians from various places and confessed Christ before the governor Firmilian.
Despite torture, the group remained steadfast in their faith. Pamphilus was beheaded along with most of his companions, while his servant Porphyrius was burned alive as he searched for his master's body.
