Biography

Porphyrios (born Evangelos Bairaktaris) was born in 1906 on Evia. As a young man he became a monk at Kafsokalyvia on Mount Athos.

For many years he served as a priest in Athens, at the chapel of the Polyclinic, and became widely known as a spiritual father. He died at Kafsokalyvia in 1991 and was recognised as a saint by the Ecumenical Patriarchate in 2013.
