Saint Simon the Zealot
One of the Twelve Apostles.
Biography
Simon was one of the Twelve Apostles, known in the Gospels as "the Zealot" or "the Cananaean". The epithet is linked either to his zeal for the Law and for preaching the Gospel, or to his origin from Cana in Galilee.
According to tradition, after Pentecost he preached the Gospel in Persia and then in Africa, from Egypt to Mauretania, and finally in Britain, where he was seized by pagans, tortured and put to death on a cross.
