Saint Thecla, Protomartyr and Equal-to-the-Apostles
Disciple of the Apostle Paul from Iconium, honoured as the first woman martyr.
Biography
Thecla came from Iconium in Asia Minor. According to the Acts of Paul and Thecla, she heard the Apostle Paul preach, became a Christian and was miraculously saved from attempts to kill her.
According to tradition she lived as an ascetic in Seleucia. She is honoured as the first woman martyr and as Equal-to-the-Apostles.
