Saint Theodore the Recruit
Soldier and martyr from Amasea in Pontus.
Biography
Theodore was a new recruit (tiron) in the Roman army and was martyred in the early fourth century.
The first Saturday of Great Lent is dedicated to the miracle of the kollyva that tradition attributes to him, which is why many people named Theodore celebrate on that day.
