4th century
Saint Triphyllius of Ledra
A former pagan lawyer who became a disciple of Saint Spyridon and the first bishop of Nicosia.
Biography
Triphyllius studied law and rhetoric in Beirut and worked there as a highly successful lawyer, while still a pagan. Moved by the courage with which persecuted Christians endured their torments, he embraced Christianity and returned to Cyprus after the Edict of Milan was issued.
He became a disciple and deacon of the wonderworking Saint Spyridon, under whom he was deeply instructed in the Christian faith, and was later ordained the first bishop of Nicosia.
