Saint Tryphon
Martyr from Phrygia, in folk tradition the protector of vineyards and gardens.
Biography
According to tradition, Tryphon was a young shepherd from Phrygia who healed the sick. He was martyred at Nicaea under Decius, around 250.
In the Greek countryside he is the protector of vineyards and fields; on 1 February vineyards are blessed in many places.
