Saint Veronica, the woman with the issue of blood
The woman with the issue of blood whom Christ healed according to the Gospels; tradition gives her name as Veronica and says she came from Paneas.
Biography
According to the Gospels, a woman who had suffered from bleeding for years was healed by touching Christ's garment. The Synaxarion of Saint Nikodemos names her Veronica and says she came from Paneas; out of gratitude, tradition holds, she made a statue of Christ and set it up outside her house, where an herb grew that healed diseases.
In Western tradition the same saint is identified with the woman who, on the road to Calvary, wiped Christ's face with her veil, upon which his features were miraculously imprinted - the so-called Veil of Veronica.
In both versions, Veronica went on to live as a member of the early Church and died in peace.
