1st century
Holy Apostles Aquila and Priscilla
A 1st-century Christian couple of tentmakers, Aquila being a native of Pontus, who hosted the Apostle Paul in Corinth and became his co-workers in preaching.
Biography
Aquila and Priscilla were a Jewish couple from Pontus, tentmakers by trade, who lived in Corinth. When the Apostle Paul visited the city, they hosted him and were so struck by his preaching that they were instructed, baptised, and followed him as co-workers on his journeys.
Paul gratefully mentions their service and courage in his letters, and tradition holds that they also instructed the noted preacher Apollos.
They were later arrested by persecutors of Christianity and beheaded, thus being honored as both Apostles and Martyrs.
