Saints Chrysanthus and Daria
Married martyrs of Rome.
Biography
Chrysanthus came from Alexandria, the son of a prominent pagan, and lived in the time of Emperor Numerian. He was instructed in Christianity and baptised in secret; when his father found out, he imprisoned him and married him to Daria, a pagan woman from Athens, hoping to draw him away from his faith.
Instead, Chrysanthus brought Daria to Christianity and she too was baptised. They were denounced to the authorities and tortured, which converted even Claudius, the officer overseeing their torture, along with his family and soldiers. Chrysanthus and Daria were finally thrown alive into a pit and buried, around 283.
