3rd–4th century
Hieromartyr Clement of Ancyra and Martyr Agathangelus
Clement, bishop of Ancyra and known for his care of orphans, and his disciple Agathangelus endured, according to tradition, many tortures during the persecutions and were beheaded in 312.
Biography
Clement lost his father while still young and was raised as a Christian by his mother Euphrosyne. His learning, charity and other virtues led to his election as bishop of his native Ancyra.
As bishop he took special care of orphans, the poor and abandoned children, whom he welcomed into the Church, instructed and baptized. His disciple Agathangelus, a Roman by birth, followed him into the Christian faith.
Under Diocletian they were taken to Nicomedia, where they endured terrible tortures and were finally beheaded together in 312.
