Saints Cosmas and Damian of Asia
Brothers and physicians from Asia Minor, sons of Saint Theodota, who healed without payment.
Biography
Cosmas and Damian came from Asia Minor and were sons of Theodota, who, once widowed, raised them as Christians. The two brothers were well educated, especially in medicine, which they practiced as a form of service to others.
They treated the sick, especially the poor, without accepting payment - which is why they were called the Unmercenaries - directing all thanks to God rather than accepting it themselves. They died in peace and were buried at the place called Feremma.
