Saints Cyril and Methodius
Brothers from Thessaloniki, enlighteners of the Slavs.
Biography
Cyril (born Constantine) and Methodius were brothers from Thessaloniki. In the ninth century they were sent from Byzantium as missionaries to Great Moravia.
They created the Glagolitic alphabet and translated liturgical texts into Slavonic, which is why they are honoured as Equal-to-the-Apostles and Enlighteners of the Slavs.
