Saints Maximus, Dadas and Kyntillianos

Three martyrs of Dorostolon under Diocletian, whose relics were later found and brought to Constantinople.

Biography

The martyrs Maximus, Dadas and Kyntillianos lived under Emperors Diocletian and Maximian in Dorostolon, in Lower Moesia. When they refused to sacrifice to idols, the governor Tarquinius had them cruelly scourged and finally beheaded at a place called Ozovia.

Their relics stayed hidden there for years until, according to tradition, an angel revealed where they lay. They were then moved to a church of the Theotokos in Constantinople, in the district of Viglentios, where the finding of their relics has since been kept as a separate feast from their original martyrdom on 13 April.
