Saints Photius and Aniketos
An uncle and nephew, martyrs from Nicomedia, who together confessed their faith before Diocletian.
Biography
Photius and his uncle Aniketos came from Nicomedia. When Diocletian spoke publicly with harsh words against Christians, Aniketos dared to answer him back, declaring before the Senate that Christians were in fact the healthiest part of the empire.
The furious emperor had him thrown to a lion, which grew tame instead of attacking, and onto a burning wheel whose flames miraculously went out; at that Photius ran to embrace his uncle, confessing his own faith as well. The two were finally put to death together in an overheated bath.
