Third-century martyrs; the synaxarion lists many classical names among their companions, such as Pericles, Socrates and Miltiades.

Biography

Saints Aphrikanos, Theodore, Maximus, Pompeius and Terentius were martyred in 250 AD, under Emperor Decius, at Carthage in Africa, together with thirty-nine other Christians whom the synaxarion lists by name, among them many classical Greek names such as Socrates, Pericles and Miltiades.

They were subjected to harsh torture, but after praying they destroyed the pagan idols and temples of the city. In the end they were all beheaded together. The Church also commemorates them on 28 October.
