Saints Trophimus, Sabbatius and Dorymedon

Two young men who publicly denounced idolatry in Antioch in 278, and a city councillor who confessed the faith alongside them; all three were martyred by beheading.

Biography

Trophimus and Sabbatius were in Antioch in 278, during the reign of Emperor Probus, and on seeing pagan revels held in honour of Apollo they publicly condemned them. They were arrested at once and scourged so severely that Sabbatius died on the spot, while Trophimus, half dead from further torture, was thrown into prison.

There he was visited by Dorymedon, a city councillor, who was moved by his endurance and confessed his own Christian faith as well; he was tortured in turn. Both men were then thrown to wild beasts in the amphitheatre, which left them untouched, and they were finally beheaded.
