Saints Cosmas, Damian, Leontius, Anthimus and Euprepius, the Unmercenaries of Arabia

Five physician brothers from Arabia who treated the sick free of charge and were martyred together under Diocletian.

Biography

The five brothers Cosmas, Damian, Leontius, Anthimus and Euprepius came from Arabia and were brothers not only by blood but in outlook as well. Practising medicine with the same holy zeal, they treated the sick without charge and in this way drew many people to the Christian faith.

Their reputation, however, brought them to the attention of persecutors: they were denounced during the persecution under Diocletian and arrested by the governor Lysias at Aegae in Lycia. After harsh torture, all five were beheaded together, martyred for the faith they had served throughout their lives through healing given free of charge.
