3rd century
Saint Anastasia the Roman
A nun from Rome who, according to the Synaxarion, was martyred in the 3rd century after refusing to deny Christ before the governor Probus.
Biography
Anastasia came from Rome and lived in the 3rd century, in the time of Decius. According to the Synaxarion, when her wealthy parents died she gave her inheritance to the poor and became a nun.
She was arrested by the governor Probus, who urged her to deny Christ because of her youth. She refused, and tradition holds that she was cruelly tortured before being beheaded, around the year 250.
Part of her relics are kept today at the Grigoriou Monastery on Mount Athos.
