Saint Gregory the Theologian
Archbishop of Constantinople and one of the Three Holy Hierarchs.
Biography
Gregory (c. 329–390) was born in Cappadocia and studied in Athens, where he met Basil the Great.
He served as archbishop of Constantinople and for a time presided over the Second Ecumenical Council (381). His theological orations earned him the title “the Theologian”.
He is commemorated on 25 January and, with the other two Holy Hierarchs, on 30 January.
