Saint Kevin of Glendalough

Founder of the monastery of Glendalough in Ireland, around which an entire town later grew.

Biography

Kevin came from a noble Irish family and studied under distinguished monks of Ireland. As an adult he founded a monastery in the area of the Two Lakes, Glendalough, around which so many monks gathered that the area gradually grew into a town.

His reputation for holiness led to his ordination as bishop, and he built a cathedral near his monastery. He died in peace in 618, at a great age.
