Saint Thomas II, Patriarch of Constantinople
A deacon of Hagia Sophia who became Patriarch of Constantinople in 667 and peacefully shepherded the Church until his death.
Biography
Thomas served as a deacon and chartophylax (keeper of records) at Hagia Sophia in Constantinople, known for his conscientious conduct of church affairs, before being elected Patriarch of Constantinople in 667, succeeding Patriarch Peter.
He remained on the patriarchal throne until his death in 669, governing his flock with piety and prudence during a period of relative calm for the Church, and died peacefully, remembered as a just and God-loving shepherd.
