Saints Gurias, Samonas and Habib
Two martyrs beheaded under Diocletian and a deacon burned alive a few years later, all three from Edessa.
Biography
Gurias and Samonas were arrested by the governor Antoninus during the persecution under Diocletian and, after enduring many tortures with remarkable patience, were beheaded together, becoming a model of steadfast faith for the Christians of Edessa.
Habib lived a few years later, under Licinius, and served as a deacon in the same city, noted for his ardent preaching. When the governor Lysanias saw how many pagans he was drawing to the faith, he had him arrested, torn with iron claws, and finally burned alive outside the city.
