Saint Triantafyllos the New Martyr
New martyr from Zagora on Mount Pelion, martyred in 1680.
Biography
Triantafyllos was born in Zagora on Mount Pelion in 1663 and worked as a sailor on a local ship. In the summer of 1680, while his ship was anchored at Constantinople, he got into an argument with some Ottomans, who falsely accused him of wanting to convert to Islam.
He denied the accusation and held firm to his faith, which cost him his life: he was martyred at the Hippodrome of Constantinople on 8 August 1680, at just 18 years old. A portion of his relics is kept at the monastery of Saint Nicholas on Andros.
