The Most Holy Theotokos
The Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus Christ.
Biography
The Theotokos (“God-bearer”, Panagia) is Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. The Orthodox Church honours her above all other saints.
The feasts of the Theotokos most connected with name days are her Dormition (15 August), Nativity (8 September), Entry into the Temple (21 November), the Annunciation (25 March) and the Synaxis of the Theotokos (26 December). The Life-giving Spring, on the Friday after Easter, is a movable feast of the Theotokos.
